UNDP Starts Construction of Ulee Lheue Port

Wednesday, 06-July-2005, 09:30:58 — United Nation Development Program (UNDP), in cooperation with Transport Office of Aceh Province, announced the start of reconstruction of Ulee Lheue port in Banda Aceh. The agency hopes the construction will be completed in November.

Post-Tsunami Aceh Population Census To Start In August

Indonesian President To Officially Launch Aceh Reconstruction

Tuesday, 05-July-2005, 15:12:36 — At last, ‘’the real’’ reconstruction of Indonesian tsunami zones will be started. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will launch it by handing over hundred of fishing boats and 9,000 hectares of new agricultural land to tsunami survivors in Aceh. The ceremony will be held after his trips to China.

Solo Earthquake-Resistance Houses Erected in Nias

Tuesday, 05-July-2005 — The Catholic Diocese of Sibolga, in cooperation with the Bishops’ Conference of Indonesia, will build 8 earthquake resistance houses in Nias Island. The prefabricated houses, made by Akademi Teknik Mesin Industri (ATMI) Solo, are similar to the houses that have been built by Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in Aceh.

Kuntoro Visits Care’s Wooden House Project in Simeulue

Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, the head of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency for Aceh and Nias (BRR) visited houses built by Care International in village of Latiung, Teupah Selatan subdistrict, Simeulue Island. In Aceh, Care planned to build 8,000 houses, based on house prototype made in cooperation with GTZ of Germany.

UN-Habitat Use KDP for Construction of Aceh House

Tuesday, 05-July-2005 — The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT) announced the agency will use Indonesian government approach of Kecamatan Development Programme (KDP) and Urban Poverty Programme (UPP) in implementing the construction of houses for tsunami survivor in Aceh.
